Removal Procedure
Warning:Refer toBrake Dust Warning.
Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimumallowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point andthe minimum allowable level, remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.Raise and support the vehicle. Refer toLifting and Jacking the Vehicle.Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer toTire and Wheel Removal and Installation.Note:
DO NOT use any air tools to remove or install the guide pin bolts. Use hand toolsONLY.Install an open end wrench to hold the caliper guide pin in line with the brake caliperwhile removing or installing the caliper guide pin bolt. DO NOT allow the open endwrench to come in contact with the brake caliper. Allowing the open end wrench tocome in contact with the brake caliper will cause a pulsation when the brakes areapplied.Hold the brake caliper guide pin stationary and remove the lower brake caliper guidepin bolt-(1).Pivot the brake caliper-(1)-upward.Place a block of wood or an old brake pad against the brake caliper pistons.Using a brake pad spreader tool or equivalent, fully seat the caliper piston in thecaliper bore.
Note:Note the location of the brake pad wear sensor for correct installation.
Remove the outer brake pad-(1)-and the inner brake pad-(2).Remove the upper and lower brake pad springs-(1).If installing new brake pads, discard the springs.Installation Procedure
Note:Always replace disc brake pads in axle sets. If installing new brake pads, installnew brake pad springs.
Install the upper and lower brake pad springs-(1).Note:Note the location of the brake pad wear sensor for correct installation.
Install the outer brake pad-(1)-and the inner brake pad-(2).Pivot the brake caliper to the installed position.Caution:Refer toFastener Caution.
Using a backup wrench to hold the brake caliper guide pin stationary, install thelower brake caliper guide pin bolt-(1)-and tighten to- 27-Y (20-lb-ft).Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer toTire and Wheel Removal and Installation. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately-2/3-of its traveldistance.Slowly release the brake pedal.Wait-15-seconds, then repeat steps-6-7-until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Thiswill properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.Fill the master cylinder reservoir. Refer toMaster Cylinder Reservoir Filling.Burnish the brake pads and rotors. Refer toBrake Pad and Rotor Burnishing.Tire Dismounting and Mounting Wheels
Caution:Use a tire changing machine in order to dismount tires. Donot use hand tools or tire irons alone in order to remove the tirefrom the wheel. Damage to the tire beads or the wheel rim couldresult.Caution:Do not scratch or damage the clear coating on aluminum wheelswith the tire changing equipm ...
