Airbag Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement

Component Name

Warning:Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing anddiagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, makesure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward thefront of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installationprocedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, orunnecessary SIR system repairs.

Warning:Refer toSIR Warning.

Preliminary ProceduresDisable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer toSIR Disabling and Enabling.Remove the drivers seat. Refer toDriver or Passenger Seat Removal and Installation.Remove the drivers side front floor console trim plate. Refer toFront Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement.Move the passenger seat to full rearward position.Remove the front floor lower console side finish cover right side. Refer toFront Floor Lower Console Side Finish Cover Replacement - Right Side.Remove all the front floor console fasteners. Refer toFront Floor Console Replacement.Raise the rear of the center console approximately 1 inch and support.Access the SDM module through the console structure opening.Disconnect the electrical connector.

Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Assembly

Note:

Due to minimal clearances between the console attachment bolts and the front seattracks, a 10mm short drive ratchet wrench should be used to remove the seat bolts.The clearances are too small for air tools to be used.After removing the console floor attachment bolts, place a 1” block underneath theleft rear console support bracket to maintain clearance for tool and hand access tothe SDM.When installing, ensure the arrow on the module is pointed towards the front of thevehicle.If installing a replacement module, program the module. Refer toControl Module References.
