Chevrolet Equinox Service Manual: Cleanliness and Care
An automobile engine is a combination of many of thefollowing surfaces:
MachinedHonedPolishedLappedThe tolerances of these surfaces are measured in theten-thousandths of an inch. When you service any internal enginepart, cleanliness and care are important. Apply a liberal coatingof engine oil to the friction areas during assembly in order toprotect and lubricate the surfaces on initial operation. Throughoutthis section, practice proper cleaning and protection procedures tothe machined surfaces and to the friction areas.
Caution:Engine damage may result if an abrasive paper, pad, ormotorized wire brush is used to clean any engine gasketsurfaces.
Whenever you remove the valve train components, keep thecomponents in order. Follow this procedure in order to install thecomponents in the same locations and with the same mating surfacesas when removed.
Warning:Refer toBattery Disconnect Warning.
Disconnect the negative battery cables before you perform anymajor work on the engine.
